The Ubuntu Server edition is derived from the ever reliable Debian Linux operating system, with which it shares the qualities of solid performance and an even pace of development.
1st Easy currently offer four versions of Ubuntu: Long Term Support (LTS) version 6.06 (Dapper Drake), LTS 8.04 (Hardy Heron), 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) and 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope). LTS status for a version means that Ubuntu guarantee support for 5 years following its release - exactly the kind of extended life that is sought for dependable and stress-free server hosting.
Ubuntu is a favourite with Linux administrators and developers due to the ready availability of a vast collection of installable software (obtained through repositries), which is easily installed using the 'APT' package utilities (the commands, 'apt-get' and 'aptitude'). In addition, Ubuntu enjoys a thriving support community, which is based at ubuntuforums.org.
