What is the difference between virtual and physical deployment?
Our dedicated virtual servers (between two and four per host machine depending on specification) are allocated dedicated memory and dedicated CPU cores, guaranteeing the performance of your allocated specification. The underlying Xen® hypervisor (virtualisation technology) supports absolute resource isolation between each server; simply put, the performance of your own virtual server will not be impacted by the activities of other accounts.
Our Enterprise and Enterprise Plus servers are dedicated physical servers - the chassis and hardware is yours, and yours alone.
What does your managed service option include?
Our managed service is designed for "plug and play" with simple browser-based management. If you opt for a managed server we will install the Parallels™ Pro (an additional £10/month for a 20 domain license) or CPanel / WHM (an additional £20/month for unlimited domains) control panel on your server - a secure browser based administration tool that simplifies the management of server administration. In addition, our technical staff will be responsible for ensuring the security of the control panel software and operating system, along with automatic weekly remote backups. Root access is still provided.
What does your unmanaged service include?
Our unmanaged service is suited to experienced system administrators. We will provide a bare system with the operating system of your choice pre-installed, giving you have the freedom to install what you want, when you want. Although you are responsible for installing and updating any software on the server, you will still benefit from the protection of our border firewalls.
What is remote KVM over IP?
Anytime remote KVMoIP gives you direct control over a server at console level via a browser - 24/7/365, without arrangement via 1st Easy support. This is especially useful in any of the following situations:
- Recovering quickly from a freeze-up, even if the server is disconnected from the Internet.
- Performing remote OS reinstalls or critical software updates with the knowledge that you can recover from a consquential failure.
- Gaining full and priority access where a server is overloaded.
You can subscribe to our KVMoIP service for £12.50/month (giving you anytime, unlimited access) or you can purchase a one-off connection for £50 per incident.
Can you provide dedicated Ruby on Rails hosting?
We can provide Ruby on Rails support (Phusion Passenger™ and LAMP stack) as part of a managed dedicated server package. Typically, we would leave you to manage the stack yourself, but we're more than happy (and capable!) to step in and assist if you require our help. Please see our Rails FAQs for further details about our Rails hosting service.
